Free Your Mind Free Yourself

The first Zambian Adult Art Therapy Coloring Book

The first of its kind.

“Free Your Mind Free Yourself” contains inspirational messages and positive affirmations embedded in the drawings. There is also information that has been provided by experts on how to maintain your mental health. It also has some active mental health and wellness providers in Zambia and 9 other African countries.

The mission is to point the person using the book who feels they need an expert to advise in that direction. People are often afraid to speak about their feelings and thoughts because of the stigma attached to sensitive topics in societies. I want to use my position as an artist to continue bringing attention to the subject of mental health awareness. I hope we become the generation that creates a shift in the pessimistic view that mental health has and embrace the idea of normalizing the uncomfortable but necessary conversations.

The purpose of the exhibition

This exhibition attempts to address the issues surrounding mental health and highlights the challenges that are faced internally. It expresses the unspoken emotions and the struggles that sometimes go undetected. Further, it begs to caution the fact that anyone can be a victim and as such we all have a role to play.

Lastly, I Am Without A Face comes from a point of emphasizing that mental health knows no race, age nor gender. Therefore as a people, we must strive to better understand mental health and be voices that spread the awareness and bring a stop to stigma.
Change the narrative or become one.

Change the Narrative or Become One

I am without a face
I am the little voice when there is silence
I am the loud sound trying to escape
I am the question before the answer
I am the what and who exists in the most unexpected places
I am the throbbing heartbeat
I am the bursting nerve present because I want to
I am the refuge to your pain
I am what and who tells you not to feel safe
I am what keeps you up while you sleep

We all have the option to change how we view mental health (the narrative)
Or become one (become the change) by talking about issues that surround Mental Health. Say “No” to stigma and bring about awareness.
Stress…Anxiety…Panic… Grief…Phobia…Post Traumatic Stress…
Let’s have the conversation…. Because it can Happen to Anyone…

I am the one thing that you know exists and not know how long I have existed
I am the most clear thought that takes the lead in every thought process that has nothing to do with me
I am present in any place that has many thoughts running through.
I am the doubt that preys on your strength
I am your constant battle with many triggers and few defenses
But what you don’t know is
I am weak because you created me
And anything created by man can be broken by man
I am afraid that you will realize you are in charge
I am a coward and that is why I fight to stay relevant
I am Mental Health.
